Martin Buber. Me and You. Paths according to the Hasidic Teachings

Posted on by

Through this book one can meet with the world of ideas of Martin Buber – philosopher, thinker, writer, whose power of thought defined intellectual ways of the twentieth century. The book consists of two texts – Me and You and Paths according to the Hasidic teachings. The first one is the most famous philosophical work by Buber. This small treatise appeared to be a manifesto of the twentieth century philosophy. The philosopher offers to apply to the Other not as to an object – to “It”, but as to “You” – the same subject of a dialogue as “Me’’.

Buber’s contribution to the study of Hasidism is invaluable. In Hasidic tales Buber saw a vivid embodiment of wisdom of the Jewish people, the healing “medicine” against alienation and spiritual impoverishment. We offer here to Ukrainian readers his popular exposition of the fundamentals of Hasidic teachings.
